Roland Stenton

Mr. Roland C. Stenton, 88, of Thurmont, MD., passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at his home from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was the husband of Marion Devilbiss Stenton.

Roland was born June 4, 1923 in Newcastle, England. He came to the United States as an infant residing in Niagara Falls, N.Y. until 1965 when his family moved to Thurmont.

Mr. Stenton served his Country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had a career with Moore Business Forms that spanned 46 years both in Niagara Falls and Thurmont, where he retired in 1988. He attended Linwood Brethren Church in Linwood, MD . Roland was a life member of the American Legion Post 168 in Thurmont. He enjoyed spending time with his family and golfing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Brian Stenton and wife Brenda of Newport News, VA, daughter Sandy Green and husband Ray of Frederick, granddaughter’s Catherine (Stenton) Murphy and husband Shane of Herndon, VA and Kristi M. Green and fiancé Grant Kehrer of Alexandria, VA, great grandchildren Lauren and Alex Murphy of Herndon, VA, stepsons Russell Devilbiss of Frederick and Steven Devilbiss and wife Nancy of Hagerstown, step-grandchildren Sarah Devilbiss and fiancé Kyle Nevins of Silver Spring and Lindsay Devilbiss of Boston, Mass. He was preceded in death by his first wife “Billie” Stenton and one brother and two sisters.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Friday, September 30, from 2-4 and 6-8p.m., where services will be held Saturday, October 1, at 11:00 am with Pastor Dan Ceary officiating.
