Mr. Roger F. Wiley, 93, of Thurmont, died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. He was the loving husband of nearly 66 years to Jeannette Young Wiley.

Born January 3, 1920 in Detour, he was the son of the late Mathew F. and Etta Mae Gibson Wiley.

Mr. Wiley worked as a mechanist engineer technician for the federal government for 27 years and as an instrument maker for Litton Industries for 10 years. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Antietam of which he was a proud member of that association.

Always having a life-long curiosity and need to create, and upon his retirement from the government, Mr. Wiley received a mug with the following inscription engraved: "A Mechanic, Machinist, Designer, Innovator, and Inventor." These were his passions. In retirement, he ran his own business making sinker eyes and rock cleats. He used his talents making everything from go karts to a riding lawn mower as well as helping many volunteer and local businesses with equipment repair.

He also was a member of the American Legion Post 168, Thurmont; VFW, and the AMVETS. He was a lifetime member of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Clyde Matthew Wiley and wife, Sandra, of Thurmont; two grandchildren, Erica Hayes and husband, Jeff, and their daughter, Tessa, of Tennessee; and Chad Wiley and wife, Nicole, and their children, CJ and Mia, of Texas; and many nieces, nephews and additional family members.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Willard and Norman Wiley.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Officiating will be Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Chad Wiley, George Ward, Larry Clabaugh, Doug Durkin, Terry Young, and Don Joy. Honorary bearer will be Roy Clabaugh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Ministries, c/o St. Catherine's Nursing Center, 331 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD 21727; or to Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd., Keymar, MD 21757.
