Roger E. Stottlemyer, 90, of Mt. Lena, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Born on March 31, 1922, in Mt. Lena, Maryland, he was the last remaining family member of the late Charles I. and Annie R. (Houpt) Stottlemyer.

Roger was a lifetime member of Mt. Lena United Methodist Church in Mt. Lena, where he and his wife, Anna Mae, organized the Senior Citizens meetings and where Roger was intrumental in the layout and design of the Prayer Garden. Roger also founded and donated the ground for the Mt. Lena Recreation Club.

Mr. Stottlemyer was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Battle of the Bulge, Remagan Bridge, and Ruhr Pocket Battles, respectively, in Germany and Belgium.

Roger owned and operated the Stottlemyer Amoco Station off of Route 40 in Mt. Lena and the Dual Highway for forty years.  When he wasn't working at the station, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae (Flook) Stottlemyer of Mt. Lena, whom he married on February 15,1958;  a daughter, Jennifer May and her husband, Roy of Inwood, West Virginia; two sons, David Stottlemyer of Mt. Lena and Craig Stottlemyer and his wife, Kristine of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania; three grandsons, Kenneth May and his fiance, Kaitlyn Baird, Matthew and Mark Stottlemyer, both of Coopersburg.  Roger is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Vallie Slick, Edna Brandenburg, Lillie Stouffer, Thelma Barnhart, Ethel Keadle, Esta Stottlemyer and Minnie Stottlemyer; and three brothers, Charles "Hen", Woodrow, and Harold "Peck" Stottlemyer.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mt. Lena Road, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.  Rev. Ronald R. Kurtz will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at the adjoining church cemetery, with military honors rendered by the Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
