Rodney Shankle

April 27, 1936 — November 16, 2018

Rodney Leroy “Sonny” Shankle, 82, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on November 16, 2018 at Genesis Nursing Home in Gettysburg, PA.  He was the husband of 43 years to Marcia Lee (Fleming) Shankle.
Born on April 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Lewis and Delma (Betts) Shankle.  Rodney served with the Maryland National Guard as a heavy weapons infantryman and worked as a cook during his service.  He was a lifetime member of the United Fire Company, where in 1957 he was voted Rookie of the Year for the city of Frederick.  He was a linesman for the city of Frederick before working at the Sears warehouse, from which he retired after 27 years.  As a former member of the Buck and Bass Club of Frederick, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Marcia, he is survived by his two sons, Shawn Michael Shankle and his companion, Beverly Stitely, and David Alan Shankle and his wife Amanda, and grandson, Braden; sisters, Charlotte Gaver and her husband Paul and Janice Draper and numerous nieces and nephews.  He will also be missed by his longtime friends, Jerry Friend and Jim Adkins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Robert, and Terry Shankle, and sister, Betty Sheffield.
The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
