Robert "Wayne" Lockett

Robert “Wayne” Lockett, 70, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Frederick Memorial Hospital from complications at the end of a long battle with autonomic dysfunction. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie (Valentine) Lockett for 48 years. Born on May 16, 1949 in Washington, DC, he was the oldest son of Audrey (Foley) and the late Durward Lockett. Wayne graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1967 and played basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School under Coach Morgan Wootten. He was a member of the DeMatha team who became number one in the nation in 1965 when they beat Power Memorial High School from New York staring Lew Alcindor (who later became Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The win ended Power Memorial’s 71 game winning streak. The game was held in Cole Field House at the University of Maryland before a packed crowd of 12,500 people. The team and game were highly recognized in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Wayne attended Virginia Tech University on a basketball scholarship. He was a sales representative for Adcom, Inc. an engineering, drafting, and art Supply Company in Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland for 7 years. He was a territory sales manager for Alvin Inc. of Bloomfield Connecticut, a manufacturer of drafting, engineering, and art supplies for 23 years. Wayne enjoyed traveling, white water rafting, hiking, camping, trips to the ocean, and mountains with his family. He enjoyed playing basketball, coaching his son Chris’ basketball teams, and cheering his son Michael in Unified Sports track and field events and bocce ball competitions. He followed the Washington basketball and baseball teams and was an avid Redskins fan. In addition to his wife Bonnie, he is survived by his mother Audrey Lockett; sons Christopher “Chris” Wayne Lockett and Michael Jonathan Lockett; grandson Logan Wayne Lockett; sister Linda Warner (Walsh); brothers Dan Lockett; Tim Lockett (Sara); Jay Lockett (Lisa); uncle Robert Foley (Judie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Durward Lockett and nephew Jeremy Lockett. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Saint Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD 21793. Friends will also be received at 9 a.m. prior to mass at St. Timothy’s. Rev. Msgr. Richard Murphy will celebrate mass. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, Maryland followed by a luncheon at St. Timothy’s Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD 21793; Goodwill Industries, 5112 Pegasus Court, Suite M, Frederick, MD 21704; the Arc of Frederick County, 620A Research Drive, Frederick, MD 21703; Morgan Wootten Scholarship Fund, DeMatha Catholic High School, 4313 Madison Street, Hyattsville, MD 20781.
