Mr. Robert P. Schildt, 82, a lifelong resident of Thurmont, Maryland, passed into Eternity on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at his home, with his wife, son, and daughters by his side.
Robert was born in Thurmont, Maryland on May 2, 1932, to the late Paul Leonard and Laurel E. Leona (Wollard) Schildt. He remained a lifelong resident there with his wife of sixty-two years, Lila Lee (Martin) Schildt. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert L. Schildt; and two daughters, Debra Lee Schildt and Stacey Ann Keilholtz; two grandsons, Michael Q. and Daniel T. Schildt; his six granddaughters, Kristin A. Schildt, Dena A. and Danielle E. Seiss, Megan L. and Katelyn E. Keilholtz, and Gretchen M. (Keilholtz) Green and husband, Brandon. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Lila G., Cora J., and Colette H. Green.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Patricia Kaye Schildt.
Robert was a man of integrity and great work ethic. Living the American Dream, he began work at age eleven, pumping gas at a filling station, eventually owning and operating a construction firm for over fifty years. He had a love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing whenever he could. Family was very important; he loved his time with his grandchildren and gave up the possibility of a major league baseball career to remain home and provide for his family. He served as a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Korean War.
Per his wishes, there will not be a viewing or service. A private graveside service will be held with the family at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont, at a later day and time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Wounded Warrior Project or American Heart Association, would be appreciated.
