Robert M. "Dope" Bowers, 82, of Knoxville, Maryland, went to heaven surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marlene Bowers.
Born on August 19, 1935, in Yarrowsburg, he was the son of the late John A. and Eleanor E. (Nokes) Bowers.
Dope was a graduate of the Boonsboro High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy before his employment with the Railroad, Boeing and Pepco. After 33 years of service, he retired from Potomac Electric Power Company.
He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Moose and the Boonsboro Senior Center. He was also a life member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
Dope loved spending time with his family and going on beach vacations to the OBX and car shows with his family. He always told everyone a joke or story never meeting a stranger because by the end of the conversation they were his friends. He loved to butcher and was the "candy man" at church. Dope knew how to fix or build just about anything, always thinking of others before himself.
In addition to his wife, Marlene, Dope is survived by a son, Tracy Bowers and his wife, Lori, of Yarrowsburg; a daughter, Melissa Wise and her husband, J.R., of Asbury, NJ; grandchildren, Robert M. Bowers, II and wife, Samantha, Victoria Bowers, Trevor and Parker Wise; sister, Marlene R. Kelley and brothers, James L. "Bill" Bowers and Arthur E. "Jack" Bowers.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Lois A. Howser, Wanda G. Rohr and John A. "Ching" Bowers, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4th at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville with Rev. Alan M. Smith officiating. Interment will be at Brownsville Heights Cemetery.
