Robert D. Dix, 79, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 3007, at his residence at Edenton Retirement Community in Frederick.
He was born on March 22, 1928, in Tunkhannock, PA, and was the son of the late Frank A. Dix and Gertrude V. Barney.
He is survived by his brother, Frank A. Dix and wife Audre; niece, Diane D. Chandler and husband Carol, all of Simpsonville, SC; nephew, F. Allan Dix and wife Kathy of State College, PA, and nephew, Ronald R. Robinson and wife, Carol of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Mt. Airy, MD. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude M. Robinson.
Bob enlisted in the Navy at age 16 in March 1944 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in January 1970. He served in Korea, China, Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Vietnam.
After retiring from the Navy, Bob resided in Arlington, VA, where he obtained a B.S. degree from George Washington University in 1971. He then moved to Boynton Beach, where he lived for over 20 years. He traveled extensively and worked for awhile as a travel agent in Florida. He was a history buff, loved to read, and collected maps from all over the world.
He moved to Frederick in 2005 to avoid the Florida hurricanes and be closer to family. He was a member of VFW Post 3285, BPOE. Lodge 684, AMVETS Post 2, American Legion Post 11, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE No. 1067.
Services: Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 24th at Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, PA.
