Mr. Robert Earl “Bobby” Thompson, age 83, of Toccoa, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born January 22, 1928 in Pleasant Valley, MD, he was a son of the late John Tilghman and Sarah Pearl Himes Thompson and had lived in Toccoa for the past 20 years moving from Maryland.
He was of the Christian Faith and had worked with the railroad, Dulles Airport, and at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, MD. Mr. Thompson was an Army WWII Veteran.
Family members include his wife, Carole Doss Thompson; sons and daughters-in-law, Teddy Thompson of Austin, TX, Terry and Christy Thompson of Inwood WV, Timothy and Jessica Thompson of Winchester, VA and Todd Thompson of Myersville, MD; step-sons and spouse, Philip Curbow and Hugh and Billie Curbow all of Toccoa, and Charles Curbow of Townville, SC; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Kenneth Fogel of Frederick, MD; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lilly Mae Lopp Thompson; and a daughter, Vicki Thompson Valentine.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Burial will follow at the Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Brownsville, Maryland.
The family will receive friends fom 6 -8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons or the Toccoa Food Bank.
