Robert "Bob" Boykin

February 1, 1960 — October 28, 2019

It is with great sadness we announce that Robert Lanham Boykin III, 59, of Thurmont, MD, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2019. He was the loving husband to Paula Boykin, and father to his son, Nicholas Boykin and daughter, Chloe Boykin.  Bob’s big smile, booming laugh, outgoing, fun loving personality will be missed by all his family and his many, many friends.

Born in Arlington, VA, he was the son of Robert Boykin Jr. and the late Patricia Brewer Stull. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country proudly from 1978 to 1982 at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

He worked as a land surveyor for over 30 years with companies such as Hillis-Carnes Engineering, Soltesz, Development Design Consultants and Goode Surveys and made many friends in the surveying business.  He was very proud to be part of the construction on the Exelon Tower high rise in Baltimore and would point out the building in any picture or when driving by it.

He was very involved in the community, from coaching multiple baseball, softball and soccer teams, to a Boy Scouts troop leader.  Whenever the kids needed him, he was there.

During his time in the Army, he picked up and learned to play the guitar, an instrument to which he enjoyed all throughout his life, especially with his brother Bruce. He also had a love for motorcycles, of which he would ride every chance he could in the countryside, on the nice weather days.  He also enjoyed camping, kayaking, and hiking along the C & O Canal and all the history tied to it.

He is survived by his brother Andrew Boykin and wife, Dianne Boykin; his sister, Katherine Boykin Hunter and John Giblin and her son, Edward Hunter; his brother Bruce Boykin and wife, Julie Boykin and their son, Ian Boykin, daughter Sara Boykin and predeceased daughter Ryan Boykin.  Father Robert Boykin, Jr. and his wife Judy Boykin. Father in Law, Dale Baker and wife, Betty Baker; Mother in Law, Patricia Marant and husband, William Raznovsky; Brother in Law, Dennis Baker and wife Stephanie Baker and their daughter, Hannah Baker.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Patricia Brewer Stull and her husband, Alexander Stull.

The family will receive friends from 3-6pm on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

Services will be held at 11am on Monday, November 4th at the funeral home with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to a fund established for the family to assist with unforeseen expenses and college tuition for his children. Please visit the attached web link for donations.
