Robert Long, Jr.

Robert William "Bill" Long Jr., 65, of Smithsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on March 2, 1952, in Frederick, MD, Bill was the son of  Robert (Bob) W.  Long, Sr.  and the late Mary  Jane (Wagaman) Long.

Bill was a 1970 graduate of Catoctin High School, Thurmont, MD.

Bill was previously employed by Safelite Auto Glass, Bock Oil Company and Landis Tool Company. During his retirement he loved working on cars and attending car events and hanging out at the junk yards, especially Elwood's Auto Exchange. But, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his daughters and granddaughter.  He was also a lifetime member of  the National Street Rod Association.

In addition to his father, Bob Long, he is survived by his loving daughters, Cheryl Long (Shane) and Jennifer Long (Mitch) and granddaughter, Caitlyn. Dear family members, Christine Long, Cindy and Frank Hudson, Barbara Truax and many special long time friends and neighbors.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Long, father in law and best friend, Roger Truax, mother in law, Mary Beth Truax and good friend, Chris Crites.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 East Main Street in Thurmont, MD.

A celebration of Bill's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, February 26, 2018, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 East Main Street in Thurmont, MD.   Interment will be at Creagerstown Lutheran Cemetery in  Creagerstown, MD.
