Mr. Robert W. Wilhide,Sr. 69 , of Thurmont, MD passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Ruth Wilhide for 52 years.
Born on June 7, 1943 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Calvin George and Marguerite Eyler Wilhide.
Mr. Wilhide was an active member of River Bend Horseshoe Club, AMVETS Post 38, Falling Waters, WV, South Mountain, Moose, Blue Ridge Sportmens and Eagle Clubs. Robert enjoyed going to River Bend, WV with all his horseshoe players, especially Roxy Myers and also special friends Larry and Betty and was also a member of River Bend Boat Club. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially number 24 and also loved to play poker. He loved spending time with his family. Robert was a great contractor, mechanic, tractor trailer driver, Wilhide's mail transport, Wilhide's construction company,Wilhide Chevrolet and Olds and retired from the National Park Service. The family would like to thank Golden Living, especially Jean, Linda, Nancy, Nana, Andrea and Odalis which made Robert's stay more tolerable. Thank you also for their excellent care and kindness. A special thanks to the physical therapy unit, especially Doug. And a big thank you to the Hospice of Frederick County.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Robin Wilhide Smith and husband Edward of Thurmont, Rochelle Wilhide Beall of Thurmont, Robert Wilhide, Jr. and wife Barbara of Fairfield, PA and Richard Wilhide and partner Patrick McTighe of Hagerstown; grandchildren Robert Wilhide III and wife Brooke of Williamsport, Mackenzie Wilhide of Fairfield, PA, Ricky Fisher III, and wife Jamie of Fairfield, PA, Deanna and Kaylee Smith of Thurmont and special remembrance of Sonny Smith and Kelly Beall; 8 great-grandchildren Madison Smith, Logan, Brynn, Kiley and Layton Wilhide, Thomas and Tyler Feo and special great grandson Damien Feo.; brother-in-laws Bernard Sweeney and wife Terry, Joseph Sweeney and wife Judy, Ken Sweeney and wife Donna, John Sweeney and wife Patty, Donald Sweeney and wife Patricia, Elmer Sweeney and wife Pat, Robert Lookingbill and special sister-in-law Joyce Lookingbill of Thurmont; special cousin Jean Salvi and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a special aunt Thelma Wolfe.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 10 AM. Rev. Sally Joyner Giffin will officiate.
Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
