Robert Snyder, Sr.

January 13, 1943 — August 22, 2017

Mr. Robert Leo Snyder, Sr., 74, longtime Boonsboro resident, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Meritus Health Care Center. He was the loving husband of Frances Snyder, whom he married on September 14, 1963.

Born January 13, 1943 in Eckhart, MD, he was the son of the late Ruth (Himmelwright) and Aaron L. Snyder, Sr.

He graduated from Beall High School in 1961 and attended Frostburg State University.

Mr. Snyder worked for the State Highway Administration from 1963 and retired in 2013 after 50 years of service. He was a Regional Construction Engineer for the Office of Construction.

An active member of the Boonsboro community, he was a former PTA president at Boonsboro Elementary School, pack leader for Cub Scouts Pack 20, chairman of Boonsboro Planning and Zoning Commission for 25 years, and an active member of St. James Catholic Church, where he coached the church softball league and was a longtime caretaker of facilities.

Additionally, he was the area governor of Maryland Classified Employee Association, and a member of the Elks Lodge of Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, John B. Snyder and Robert Snyder; granddaughters, Hannah and Emily; a special grandson, Aaron, and fiancé, Sammi; and former daughter-in-law, Wendy Snyder.

He was predeceased by his brother, Aaron Lewis Snyder, Jr.

A Memorial Mass will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church, 121 N. Main Street, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.

Arrangements are with Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro, and Stauffer Crematory, Inc.
