Robert Franklin Smith, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away on May 12th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 82 years old.
Born on August 21st, 1940, in Frederick, Maryland, Robert graduated from Damascus High School before enrolling in the United States Army. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Following his time in the army, Robert went on to own various businesses throughout his life. He owned R&R Cabinet Company in Mount Airy, MD, Burns Aluminum Company in Damascus, MD and The Rusty Nail in Mount Airy, MD. Robert's greatest accomplishment in life was the love he had for his family.
Robert was a man of many hobbies and interests. He was an avid Redskins fan and enjoyed attending NASCAR races. Additionally, he loved fishing and hunting but also enjoyed flying his airplane and woodworking. He was also a life member with AmVets and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Robert will be remembered as a kind-hearted soul who prioritized the well-being of those around him. His proudest accomplishment remained loving his family beyond anything else.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Judy Smith; daughters, Donna Stecker (Mike) of Taneytown and Tracey Young (Ken) of Mount Airy; son, David Thomas (Vonda) of Mount Airy; grandsons, Christopher Stevens (Kendall) of Thurmont, Justin Young (Tori) of New Market, Matthew Young (Kierstin) of Frederick and Logan Thomas of Mt. Airy; granddaughters, Kelsey Young, Taylor Thomas and Lindsey Thomas all of Mt. Airy; great-granddaughters, Chloe and Caroline Stevens of Thurmont; great-grandson, Jackson Young of New Market; brother, David C. Smith of McDowell VA; nephews, Gary Smith (Melody) of Monrovia, and Donald Smith, Jr. (Joanna) of Harpers Ferry WV as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Smith, Sr., mother Mabel A. Spurlock Smith; his brother Donald Smith, Sr. and his nephew, Larry Smith.
The graveside service for Robert will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00am.
Robert's memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
