Robert Pyles

January 5, 1930 — April 24, 2016

Robert E. "Bob" Pyles passed away April 24, 2016 from complications of Parkinson and Lewy body dementia. Born in Manheim, WV to the late Reverend William and Sarah Heaton Pyles.

Bob attended Rowlesburg High School, class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955, with four years reserve duty, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1959. Following his service time he attended West Virginia University (WVU) before relocating to Frederick, MD.

Bob had 30 years Federal service, including his military time, and from 1961 to 1989 with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), it's predecessor agencies the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and the Energy Resource and Development Agency (ERDA). After retirement he worked for the History Associates at DOE for several years. In the mid 1990's Bob began working at May's Hardware Store at 7th street shopping center and the Rosemont Avenue location until 2006.

Bob was a past member of the Frederick Civitan Club, the American Legion, the Korean War organization and the Elks.

A big sports fan, Bob played sports into his adult life and followed WVU football/basketball/baseball and also the Orioles and LA Lakers. Most of all he was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl Ann Pyles of 46 years, his son Robert E. Pyles, Jr. and wife Cindy and 3 grandchildren Stephen, Casey, Chris, Florida; daughter Terrie Ann Pyles and 3 grandchildren Jade, Jacob, Tucker, Frederick, MD; brother Edward Pyles, Ohio; and brother in-law/ sister in-law Wayne and Diane Catlett, Winchester, VA; and twin children from an earlier marriage. Also many beloved cousins and relatives from the Heaton and Pyles families.

Bob was predeceased by a twin brother Richard and an older brother William; a beloved sister in-law Becky Koontz Pyles and many aunts, uncles and other family members.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 6-8PM where a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 29 at 2PM.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
