Robert N. Nicodemus, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. He was the husband of Patricia S. Nicodemus for 63 years and a lifelong resident of Walkersville.
Born on March 1, 1928 in Frederick, MD, Bob was the son of the late Robert N., Sr. and Helen Koons Nicodemus. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1945 and earned a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, where he was a member of the Hopkins Glee Club. Upon graduation, he returned to Walkersville to serve as Vice President and Engineer of the Robert Terry Garment Co.,
a family-owned business, which made men’s sport shirts. The shirts were sold nationally under the name McGregor. For the following 20 years he was an engineer for Aerojet General in Frederick, where he designed automated mail sorting systems. Bob was a lifelong member of Walkersville United Methodist Church. The church was a second home to him, where he sang in the choir and devoted many hours of service working alongside his friend, George Fisher. Bob also enjoyed gardening, flying model airplanes and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Rebecca S. Mueller and husband Fred of Columbia, Ann C. Thompson and husband Richard of Walkersville and Robert N. Nicodemus, III and wife Kathy of Walkersville; grandchildren R. David Thompson and wife Sarah, Matthew Thompson and wife Shannon, Benjamin Mueller and wife Branden and Abigail Nicodemus; great-grandchildren Violet and Garrett Thompson, Nolan Thompson, and Bryce Mueller; brother Charles A. Nicodemus and wife Kathryn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their thanks to the many caregivers while Bob was at home as well as to the staff of St. Catherine’s and Hospice of Frederick County.
The family will receive friends at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main St., Walkersville, on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 am. A service, officiated by Pastor Richard Baker, will begin at 11:00.
A private Interment will be held at Glade Cemetery.
