Robert Miles

July 27, 1929 — August 15, 2013

Mr. Robert “Bob” Miles, 84,  passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 while in the company of family at the University of Maryland Hospital.  For fifty-five years, he was the husband of Agnes “Aggie” Skultety Miles who he never ceased to drive crazy.
Born July 27, 1929 in Capitol Heights, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Walker and Mildred Conway Miles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children Stephen Miles and Dana Moehrle and husband George all of Frederick, and three grandchildren Joseph, Catherine “Kayleigh”, and Mark Moehrle.  Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.  He was preceded in death by a brother John Eugene Miles.
Bob was a lighthearted and loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed telling his granddaughter original, funny, and silly stories including ‘Smiley the Stinkbug’. He could make simple things fun and memorable such as taking his grandsons for haircuts when they were younger.  He was an intelligent man with a serious concern about the world, but he did not take himself too seriously.  He was only too willing to help out even if it was just feeding the pets or watering the flowers.  When he walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, he presented her to her betrothed and said, “Well, she’s on your insurance now!”.  Then he turned to her and whispered loudly, “ I’ve got the car running outside just in case you change your mind.”.
He had a passionate love for freedom, and a faith in God.
Bob assisted in establishing the State of Maryland’s Korean War Veteran’s Department, and in doing so, was their first Commander.  Most recently, he was serving as the Department’s Treasurer and also Commander of Chapter #142, Korean War Veterans Association of Frederick County.  Bob was also instrumental in helping establish Chapters #312 in Hagerstown, and #313 in Winchester, VA as well as numerous other local and national veterans’ projects.  Members of the K.W.V.A. wish to express that they have lost a very special friend and their hearts are heavy.
Bob was an estimator for Alberti Van and Storage in Gaithersburg for over 30 years before retiring.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, August 18, from 2-4, and 7-9:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Monday, August 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 112 E. Second Street, Frederick with Father Stephen Gosnell as celebrant.  Internment Mt Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks contributions be made to the Korean War Veterans Association #142, P.O. Box 1647, Frederick, MD 21702.
