Robert Vernon Maynard, 85, of Myersville, Maryland passed away on July 5, 2015 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born on February 20, 1930 in Hancock, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mina (Jordan) Maynard. Robert was also the youngest of twelve preceded siblings.
After Robert graduated from high school, at the age of 18 he joined the United States Army. He served from 1948 to 1954 and was stationed in Hawaii and Fort Meade, Maryland. He met his wife, June Maynard, during his time at Fort Meade.
In 1956, Robert worked for Western Electric then went to work for AT& T for 30 years. He retired from AT&T in 1986. He then went to work for the Department of Energy.
Robert enjoyed spending his retirement at the Hagerstown Speedway, gardening, flowering and working in his yard.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Robert is survived by his children, Denise Kocur and her husband Paul of Frenchtown, New Jersey, Michael Maynard of Myersville, Maryland, and Lisa Maynard of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; his grandson, Austin Maynard.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by spouse of 51 years, June (Stevens) Maynard whom he married on April 10, 1954 in Winchester, Virginia.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, July 18th between 6 p.m. to 8 p. m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.
