Robert Hobba Jr.

May 18, 1958 — May 2, 2018

Robert Lemuel Hobba, Jr. was born May 18, 1958 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., he passed away May 2, 2018.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert L. Hobba and Anne M. Hobba and is survived by his sisters, Chastain Hobba Knapp and Fannie Hobba Shenk, as well as his brother-in-law, Rich Knapp, and his nieces Teagan Maguire, Taylor Knapp, Chastain Shenk and Madison Shenk.

A 1976 graduate of Frederick High School, Bob was on the JV Basketball team, and a hurdler for the track team.  As a member of the Urbana 4H Club he was honored with the Shepherd Award for his Dorset Sheep project showing at The Great Frederick County Fair and serving on the Livestock Judging Team at the Maryland State Fair.

Robert received a B.S. in Education from the University of Maryland, and also studied at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore and Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.  He was employed as Art Director of the Gaithersburg YMCA before teaching in-home students for the Board of Education of Frederick County.

Robert was part of the Way Station program in Frederick most of his adult life.  The support he received there allowed him to live on his own and pursue his passion of painting bright, beautiful city and nautical scenes from his imagination.  Though his mental illness was limiting, Robert was a talented artist, a devoted son and enthusiastic follower of his sisters' and nieces' experiences.

We are so appreciative of the caring people from the Way Station and the Carroll Home Care Hospice who made it possible for Robert to live and die with dignity and on his own terms.  We thank the Way Station for all the support through the years.  If interested, please remember Robert by supporting these amazing programs:  Executive Director, Way Station, P.O. Box 3826,  Frederick, MD 21705, or Carroll Home Care Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave.,  Westminster,  MD 21157.
