Robert John Heaney, 49, of Adamstown, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on January 22, 2025.
Rob was born on September 24, 1975, in Parlin, New Jersey to Robert and Sally (Brennan) Heaney. The family moved to Derwood, Maryland, where Robert forged lifelong friendships and graduated from Colonel Zadok Magruder high school in 1993. He later moved to Frederick with his wife, Beth to build a family and life filled with love and purpose.
A dedicated DCFD firefighter for 24 years, Rob attained the rank of Lieutenant and honorably served the Washington, D.C. community with unwavering commitment and bravery, ultimately sacrificing his health in the line of duty. Rob was highly competent and a decisive leader who was well respected by his friends and coworkers. He was a true hero, putting others before himself and working tirelessly to protect those in need.
When Rob was not doting on his beloved wife, Beth, or their two beautiful children, Molly and Finn, he was known for his love of the outdoors and his many passions, which include mountain biking, softball, and skiing. An expert landscaper and an exceptional cook, he took great pride in perfecting his craft on his Big Green Egg, always eager to share a meal with family and friends.
He also leaves behind his father, Robert; his sister, Kellie; and his brother, Sean. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally, who passed away in 2021.
Funeral service to honor Robert’s life will be held at 12:00 on February 3, at FCF Church in Frederick. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at FCF church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House Charities, two organizations that were close to Rob’s heart.
Rob’s legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and the community he so selflessly served.
