Robert Gelwicks

Mr. Robert Craig (“Bob”) Gelwicks, 55, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away suddenly Thursday, November 7, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Sonya Gouker Gelwicks, the love of his life, whom he married on December 18, 1981.

Born January 4, 1958 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Betty L. Spurlock Miskell and Bernard L. Gelwicks.

Mr. Gelwicks was a hard worker. He loved his work and spent 34 years in the commercial construction industry; he took pride in supporting his family with his talents as a skilled mechanic. Robert loved spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. He enjoyed Nascar and fishing, and had a great sense of humor. He attended Graceham Moravian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children Lindsay Tosten and husband James;  and Michaela Gelwicks and Jonathan “Duke” Nichols all of Hagerstown; five grandchildren Nathaniel, Craig and Tianna Tosten and Mason and Noah Nichols; and siblings Rev. Sue Koenig (Michael) of Thurmont, Thomas Gelwicks (Melissa Lewis) of Cascade and Tamera  Bane of Walkersville. Mother-in-law Bonnie Gouker, brother-in-laws Gary Gouker and Mark (Jamea) Gouker, many nieces and nephews, and one great nephew also survive. Robert was preceded in death by his father-in-law James Gouker, Sr. and brother-in-law James “Butch” Gouker, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD, Wednesday, November 13, from 6-9 pm. Services will be held at Graceham Moravian Church, 8231A Rocky Ridge Road, Thurmont, Thursday November 14, at 2:00 pm, with visitation and viewing one hour prior to service. Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
