Robert Everett Pyles, 86, of Myersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born on July 27, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward Everett and Mary (Gaver) Pyles.
Robert graduated from Middletown High School and attended the University of Maryland Pharmacy School.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe.
Robert was an Inspection Foreman at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, and later worked as a Defense Department Inspector in the Washington, DC Area. He was detailed to NASA as a quality Supervisor for the construction of the ATS Satellite which included a position in Mission Control during the launch. He also was a project support officer in NAVAIR on several Navy aircraft including the F-18. He retired as Product Assurance Supervisor on the Joint Cruise Missile Project in Crystal City, Virginia.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown where he participated in the Men's Bible Class.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby V. (Hovermale) Pyles; two sons, Rodney Pyles and wife Kim, of Frederick, and Jerry and wife Jennifer of Middletown; one sister, Barbara Rhoads of Frederick; one brother, W. Douglas Pyles of Ohio; two grandsons, Brandon Pyles of Frederick and Tyler Pyles and wife Shannon of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; and one step grandson, Alex Chestnut of Middletown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Lamont.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 West Main Street in Middletown. Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
