Robert Evans

Mr. Robert Evans, 93, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Gilquest Hospice in Towson, MD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harrington Evans in 1995.

Born on December 3, 1915 in Taylor, PA, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Jones) and George Evans.

Robert served his country during WW II in the US Army.

He went on to be a Administrative Finance Officer for the Department of H.E.W, retiring after 32 years of service.

A member for 55 years at the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, Robert was a past commander for the American Legion Post #1 in Washington, DC, a member of the American Legion in Clinton, MD, and a member of the Seat Pleasant, MD Masonic Lodge. He had be an active Kiwanis member.

An avid golfer, Robert was one of the charter members of Tantallon Country Club.

Survivors include his son and devoted daughter-in-law, Wayne and Carol Evans of Mt. Airy; his loving grandsons, Jason Evans and wife Jennifer of Mt. Airy and Christopher Evans and wife Nicole of New Market; his great grandchildren, Madelyn, Taylor, Isabella and Connor.

He will also be remembered by a special niece, Jean Rusnak.

Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Bea Evans, and his brothers; Raymond, George and Watkin, and sisters, Alice, Ruth, Mabel and Elizabeth.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 until 6 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD.

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 4th with Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating.

Grave side services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD with Rev. Sandy Taylor officiating.
