Robert William Cotter, age 89, passed away on July 21, 2021. He was born in New Haven, CT on November 4, 1931 to Helen W. and Frederick W. Cotter. Bob lived in Shelton, CT and graduated from St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Shelton and Fairfield Prep in Fairfield, CT. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University Of Pennsylvania Wharton School Of Finance in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from Penn, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a combat veteran in the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob was employed as an auditor for the Marriott Corporation and was based in Honolulu Hawaii. He then took a position as an auditor for the G.S.A. in Washington, D.C., and finally as an auditor with the Washington area Y.M.C.A.’s, a post he enjoyed and retired from after many years of dedicated service. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Frederick W. Cotter of Milford, CT.
After living and working in Washington for about 50 years Bob moved out to Mt. Airy, MD and then to New Market, MD to be closer to his beloved family.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness. He loved family gatherings, especially when there was a good meal involved. Turkey dinners with extra cranberry was his favorite. He loved watching sports. The Nationals, Orioles and Washington Football Team were his favorites. He looked forward to Saturdays when his nephew Rob visited and watched sports with him. There was always a cat on his lap or a dog by his side. Every animal that was lucky enough to come into his life was cherished, loved and spoiled. Bob never ended a phone call without saying" give your pets a few pats for me". His cat, Winnie will dearly miss him. Bob loved to go to Toby’s dinner theater. He clapped the longest and loudest at every performance. Broadway musicals always made him happy.
All of his nieces and nephews have fond childhood memories of Sunday outings that always ended at Howard Johnsons for sundaes.
Uncle Bob was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all. May he be rejoicing in Heaven with all of his loved ones!
