Robert Castle, Sr.
June 22, 1931 — February 13, 2012
Robert L. Castle, Sr., 80, of Mapleville Road in Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully from this life on Monday evening, February 13, 2012, surrounded by his loving family in his home.
Born on June 22, 1931, in Keedysville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Russell J. and Mamie P. (Smith) Castle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma C. (Fletcher) Castle on October 9, 1998.
Robert was a lifelong dairy farmer in the Keedysville and Boonsboro area.
Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War with the 11th Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a paratrooper. He also served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea.
He was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 10 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Belinda and her husband, Dave Elliott of Boonsboro, Peggy and her husband, Harold Ridenour, Jr. of Smithsburg, Maryland; three sons, Robert Castle, Jr and his wife, Brenda of Hagerstown, Tom Castle and his wife, Anna of Hagerstown, and David Castle of Boonsboro; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Busick of Baltimore, Maryland and a brother, Gerald Castle of Boonsboro. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lewis, and Arlington Castle.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Dean Pryor will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro.
Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
