Robert Bennington

Mr. Robert L. Bennington, 87, of Frederick died on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of JoAnn Bolen Bennington, his wife of 63 years.

Born on May 5, 1923, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Helen E. Aull Bennington. Robert spent his life serving and working for the military. He served for 3 years overseas on General Douglas MacArthur’s staff during WWII. After graduating from the University of Maryland and American University with his masters degree, he was the Chief of Data Processing for the Dept. of the Navy. Robert was a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church, FSK American Legion Post, 11, as well as the Frederick Elks Club and VFW. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 children: Beth Bennington and husband Howard Vasquez of Santa Fe, NM and Kirk Bennington and wife Paula of Sycamore, IL; 4 grandchildren: Daniel Lord of Arvada, CO, Robert Semon of Carlsbad, NM, Megan Uhlman and husband Kurt of West Chester, PA and Kevin Bennington of DeKalb, IL; 2 great grandchildren: Michael Castelein, III and Joseph Semon; a brother, Col. James Bennington and wife Valarie of Abilene, TX ; 2 sisters: Jane Viele of Havre de Grace and Pat Zengerle of Ijamsville.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 and 5-7 PM on Friday, October 22, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Rd., Frederick with Linda Wareheim officiating.

Interment with military honors will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
