Rita Marie Gibbons Sheehy, of 143 S. Main St., Boonsboro, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1915 in Haverhill, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Grady Gibbons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence D. Sheehy Sr., in 1997.
She was a 1937 graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and was employed at the hospital as a registered nurse until her retirement.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro.
She was a member of the Nurses Club of Silver Spring.
She is survived by four children, Michael Sheehy of Anchorage, Alaska, Lawrence D. Sheehy Jr. of Cibolo, TX, Mary Sheehy of Aikens, SC, and Diane Rivers of Boonsboro; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maureen Connelly, and six siblings, Helen Becker, Alice Gibbons, Thomas Gibbons, Doris Berube, Gladys Pollock and Doreen Hudson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Stephen E. Hook will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
