Rita M. Rourke, 91, residing at St. Catherine Nursing Home in Emmitsburg, MD and formerly of Frederick, MD, passed away on August 2, 2014 with her children and loving care givers of St. Catherine’s by her side.
Born on February 23, 1923 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Johanna Cronin.Rita was the wife of James Rourke who predeceased her in 2002. She was also predeceased in death by her grandson, Garrett Petronchak and brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Cronin.
Rita grew up in Washington, DC and attended Notre Dame Academy. After her marriage to Jim in 1943, Rita became a full-time housewife, raising their three children.Rita and Jim raised their family in Silver Spring, MD and were active parishioners at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for 30 years. They eventually move to Frederick, MD and lived there for 39 years. Rita was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Mike Rourke (Jeannetta), Peggy Waxter (George) and Mary Blasinsky (Mike). She was the loving grandmother to six grandchildren, Michael and Kenny Rourke, Lori Petronchak-Horowitz, Lisa Petronchak, Michael and Chrissy Blasinsky and eleven great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Keith Boisvert on Tuesday, August 5th at 11 a.m., St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
Interment Resthaven Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Katharine Drexel Building Fund, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 or to the Garrett Petronchak Memorial Scholarship, in care of the Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 E.
