Mr. Richard Paul Henderson, 90, Passed away, April 4, 2010, at the Vindabona Nursing Home, in Braddock Heights, Md.
Richard was born October 9, 1919, in Burkittsville, Md.; he was the son of the late Daniel Benjamin Blaine and Mary Nancy Virginia Graham Henderson.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruth Elaine Smallwood Henderson, in 1996.
Richard was a member of the Sunnyside United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees including the Board of Trustees and United Methodist Men.
Richard is survived by one daughter, Nardeka Reid of Leesburg, VA; one son, Bernard Diggs of Baltimore, Md; one Stepdaughter, Clarice Foreman of Frederick, Md and one Stepson, Thomas Ambush Jr., and wife Stephanie, of Frederick, Md.; one sister, Virginia Simms, of Burkittsville, Md., one Sister-in-law Agnes B. Smallwood of Petersville, Md., and one brother-in-law , Hiram M. Smallwood and wife Ivy of Sacramento, CA., a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was also preceded in death by five sisters, and three brothers. Richard will be remembered by a very devoted nephew Roy Henderson Jr., and a special Friend Charlotte Peters of Brunswick, Md., to include number of other friends and relatives.
Richard joined the C. C. Camp in 1939 and the U. S. Army in 1943. Richard was employed with the U. S. Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C. for 27 years, after retiring from the Government Printing Office; he worked part-time at the Giant Food Store for many years only to retire again. Richard was a faithful member of the American Legion and the VFW in Brunswick, Md., for many years; he looked forward to weekly card games with the fellows.
Richard enjoyed social gatherings and talking with his friends. As you all know Richard was a big time baseball player in his younger days. Richard loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden.

Services:
Visitation will be on Saturday April 10, 2010, beginning at 10 am, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Md., until time of the service at 11:30 am. The Pastor Erma A. Dyson and Reverend Betty J. Weedon will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Bethel AME Church Cemetery, in Burkittsville, Md.
