Richard Lynwood Tomlinson, 70, of Frederick died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born in Granite City, IL on February 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Lynwood Milton and Martha (Mound) Tomlinson.
Raised in North Carolina he was a 1954 graduate of Franklinton High School. Graduating from East Carolina University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Music in Piano and a Bachelor of Arts in French, Richard was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national professional music fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda, a national honorary society. He went on to receive his Master of Music from Indiana University School of Music on June 3, 1963, graduating magna cum laude. He also received his Master of Art for Teachers at Indiana University on August 31, 1968. Traveling abroad Richard attended and graduated from the Univeritye de la Sorbonne Naivelle (Paris III)-Anne Universitaire 1971-72 with a Master of French degree.
Richard taught for 34 years at Catoctin High School in Thurmont, MD the subjects of piano, French and Spanish. After his retirement he tutored, and taught at Frederick Community College and Hood College. He was a member of Alliance Francaise of Frederick.
Survivors include his sister, Kay Overby of Norlina, NC; a brother, Eddie Tomlinson of Raleigh, NC; his nieces, Donna Abbott of Knightdale, NC and Pam McGhee of Youngsville, NC. He will be loved and missed by his many friends he made throughout his life's travels.

Services: A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD with C. Dahl Drenning, Diaconal Minister officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Maryland Chapter, 8600 LaSalle Road, Chester Building, Suite 314, Baltimore, MD 21286-2011.
