Richard "Dick" Wayne Smith, 78, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, March 31, 2014 at his home.
Born on January 20, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roland John and Grace Elizabeth (Violet) Smith.
Dick was a 1953 graduate from Boonsboro High School.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where he worked rebuilding, installing and repairing radar systems in the electronics division.
He was a member of the Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown, Maryland; the Improved Order of Redmen Conococheague Tribe 84 in Williamsport, Maryland; the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 306; AARP; a lifetime member of the Williamsport Family Moose Center Lodge 2462; and a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 10 in Hagerstown.
Dick was also a member of the Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia L. (Younker) Smith; one sister, Hilda A. Thomas of Boonsboro, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Oralee L. Clouser; and one brother, Ralph E. Smith.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Jerry L. Lowans and Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Locust Grove in Rohrersville, Maryland. Military honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the funeral home.
