Richard Dennis "Denny" Hines

July 19, 1947 — December 12, 2016

Mr. Richard Dennis "Denny" Hines, 69, of Monrovia died Monday, December 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Verna B. Hines for 45 years.

Born July 19, 1947 in Frederick, he was the son of Ada Kessler and husband, Bill, of Damascus and the late Richard Grayson Hines and wife, Bev.

Denny was a 1965 graduate of Damascus High School and received a bachelors degree from Shepherd College in 1969. He was a supervisor for Kettler Brothers, Inc. in Montgomery Village for many years until his retirement in 1999.

In earlier years, he was active in area youth athletic associations and coached youth sports. Denny could almost always be found in stands of any Urbana sporting event and he would never miss the chance to watch one of his grandchildren play. He loved spending time watching his sons and grandchildren play or coach sports.

These grandchildren became his pride and joy later in life. He loved taking them for treats and enjoyed the chance to spoil them every moment he could.

In addition to his wife and mother, Denny is survived by two sons, Ryan Hines and wife, Carrie, and their children, Avery, Macy, Josey and Anthony; and Jeff Hines and wife, Kristina, and their son, Grayson; sister, Dana Herndon and husband, Darryl; an uncle, John Bell and wife, Carol; two aunts, Delores Neal and Rosalyn Bowman; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three uncles, Donald Bell and wife, Carolyn; LaVerne Neal, and James Bowman; and an aunt, Ruthellen (Hines) Hruska and husband, Ken.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

A celebration of Denny's life will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 17 from the funeral home chapel.

Interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Urbana Athletic Boosters, 3471 Campus Drive, Ijamsville, MD 21754.
