Richard A. Winn, 84, of Walkersville passed away Friday, February 27,2009. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 short years Betty Curran Winn.

Born on January 23, 1925, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of G. Arthur and Rachel (Noble) Winn. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1942. Following World War II Army service in several organizations, with time in the Aleutian Islands, he graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College with a B.S. degree in Education, and from Penn State with an M. Ed. Degree.

He taught business subjects at Red Lion High School and Shippensburg State Teachers College, in Pennsylvania, and at Middletown High School, Walkersville High School, and Frederick Community College, in Maryland. He was President of the Maryland Business Education Association in 1963. In 1968-1976, he served two terms each as Commissioner and Burgess of the Town of Walkersville, and during 1977-1987 was a general supervisor and assistant manager at Southern States Frederick Petroleum Service. He ended his working career as a part-time special projects administrator for the Town of Walkersville from 1988 to 2000, but continued to serve as an election worker through 2005.

Since moving to Walkersville in 1959, he served in many positions in Walkersville United Methodist Church, and has been a choir member since 1982. In the music field, he thoroughly enjoyed playing the baritone or euphonium in high school, in the U. S. Army's 239th AGF Band, in college, in the New Cumberland American Legion Band, and others in the Harrisburg area. He was a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co., the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Co., the Woodsboro American Legion Post 282, and the Walkersville Senior Citizens.He is survived by three daughters: Nita Gross and husband Douglas, of Gettysburg; Tina Green and husband David, of Walkersville; Ruby Hebb and husband Roger, of Middletown, and one son: Brad Winn and wife Lori, ofWalkersville; and six grandchildren: J en Hebb, Tim Gross and wife Stephanie, Christi and Brian Green, and Lindsay and Joshua Winn.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, March 3, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 4, at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, MD 21 793. Graveside services will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the memorial fund of Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, MD 21793 or the Salvation Army, 223 West 5th Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
