Richard Young

Richard Walter Young, 79, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, September 22, 2016.

Born July 18, 1937, in Frederick County, he was one of 11 children to the late Charles Edward Young of Virginia and Alma Elizabeth Bussard of Frederick.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Richard played several instruments and loved Bluegrass and Gospel music. He played in bands with his brothers and friends.

He was a heavy machine operator until his retirement and was employed with Giant Food for the last 10 years.

He is survived by his missus of 25 years, Susie Edwards of Frederick; her children, Howard and Lisa Edwards and their daughter, Megan, and Kenny and Gwen Edwards; his children, Debbie Myerly of Waynesboro, PA, Darryl and Lecia of Brunswick, Dwane and Kim of Middletown and Sam and Debbie of Jefferson; grandsons, Eric, Keith, Derek and Darin and granddaughter, Harley; brothers, Meredith, Edwin, Marion, Merle and Paul; and sister, Dorothy; and a very special niece, Dawn Hahn.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Herold, Grayson; and sisters, Betty and Thelma.

Richard was blessed to have so many wonderful caring friends and co-workers at Giant who stopped by to visit and make him smile, especially Maria Soderberg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 26th at the funeral home with Rev. Arthur Baugher officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County.
