Richard “Rick” Levin Snurr, 65, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born December 31, 1947 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of Janet E. Eyler Snurr and the late Charles Levin Snurr.
Richard served his Country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later as a U.S. Army Reservist. He retired from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion Post #168, the AMVETS Post #7, and the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Club. Richard was a devoted father and grandfather whose greatest joy was in spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors.
Richard is survived by two children Michelle D. Young and husband Blaine and Wayne L. Snurr and wife Christina all of Thurmont, grandchildren Nicole and Nathan Young, Alexis, Madison and Mason Snurr, brother Dwayne Snurr of Thurmont and a sister Tonya Long and husband Gary of Fairfield, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Snurr, Sr.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Thursday September 19, from 6-9 pm. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 20, in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
