Mr. Richard G. Smith 84, of Frederick, passed away on Monday April 29, 2013 at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick. He was the husband of the late Mary Anne Sappington Smith. They were married on October 21, 1951.
Born on October 31, 1928 in Frederick he was the son of the late Grayson R. H. and Ada Lenora Crum Smith.
He attended Walkersville HIgh School and graduated in 1945. He attended the Baltimore College of Commerce from 1945-47. He graduated with an Associate in Business Administration in Accounting. He began working for Frederick Iron and Steel, Inc in June of 1947 and retired in 1990. After serving the company in various capacities through the years in 1985 he was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer in 1985.
He attended Walkersville United Methodist Church and later transferred to Calvary in Frederick. He belonged to the following organizations, Catoctin Club, Elks, Thurmont Dance Club, and the Over the Hill Gang. Also belonged to the MD National Guard for 12 years.
Surviving are his children Richard L. Smith and wife Susan G, Robert G. S. Smith and wife Donna and Cathee Anne Maria Calvert and husband Jeff all of Frederick. Grandchildren Kate and husband Greg, Drew and Shelby. Great grandson Grayson Graham Roberts.
Visitation will be held On Thursday May 2, 2013 from 7-9pm at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday May 3, 2013. Pastor Richard Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery Libertytown.
