Richard E. Shaff, 71, of Frederick, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 10. Born on November 19, 1946 in Frederick, he was the son of Alton E. Shaff and Erma E. (Strine) Shaff. He graduated from Frederick High School Class of 1964 and North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1968 with a B.S. in Chemistry. He married Linda Ann (Culler) Larkin on October 2, 1971.
He worked for the Frederick County Health Department and then spent the next 33 years with the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, as chief of the Emergency Management Branch, retiring in 2002. He went back to work for 10 years with Crisis Management Services Corp., Clarksburg, retiring finally in 2015.
Dick loved to fish, read and spend time working around his home.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of almost 47 years; his constant Yellow Lab Mandi and cats Ni and Cassie and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
As Dick had volunteered for Hospice of Frederick County and Frederick County Animal Control, memorial contributions are suggested by the family to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to Frederick County Division of Animal Control, 1832 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, MD 21702.
A celebration of life will be determined at a later date and interment will be private.
