Richard Whitcomb Raine

Richard (Dick) Whitcomb Raine, 76, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was the beloved husband of Virginia Ruth (O’Leary) Raine for 55 years. 

Born on March 2, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Kenneth Herman and Ruth Ester (Bounds) Raine.

Dick graduated from Community College of Baltimore with an Associate in Arts degree. He began his working career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, then proceeded to work hard at a variety of different jobs. He ultimately retired from Johns Hopkins University after 20 years in General Maintenance/Locksmith. Dick loved to cook, especially homemade soups, and bake pies. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and taking naps in front of his favorite TV shows with his grand-dog, Ruby.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kristine Lynn Raine, and brother, Douglas Rutherford Raine (wife LaVerne), brother-in law, Dennis Michael O’Leary (wife Nancy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his in-laws Helen (Ferrell) and Charles O’Leary Jr., and his sister-in-law, Patricia Ann (O’Leary) Crabill, and her husband Glenn B. Crabill Jr.

The family will receive family and friends from 1-3 pm, followed by a brief service at 3pm, on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD, 21771. Interment will be private.
