Mr. Richard P. Mullen, 81 of Lovettsville, VA passed away on Sunday
September 25, 2011 at his home.
He was the husband of Nancy Mullen, his wife of 59 years.
Born April 15, 1930 in Frederick, MD he was the son of the late
Michael and Ethel Mullen. Richard retired as shop superintendent at
B&O Railroad (CSX) after 48 years of service. He served in the US Navy
from 1949 to 1949 and was honorably discharged due to family hardship.
He was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge in Brunswick, a member of
the Eagles Club in Brunswick and the Elks Lodge in Frederick. He
enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, and traveling out west to hunt
and fish. He was a collector of coins, baseball cards, & stamps. He
enjoyed hunting mushrooms in the spring, playing the ponies at Charles
Town and duck pin bowling. He also enjoyed reading John Mosby books
about the Civil War era. He loved to travel to Myrtle Beach with his
family and enjoyed looking for shark teeth on the beach with his
grandchildren. He was an avid Orioles and Redskin fan. He was a member
of St. Francis of Assissi and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
In addition to his loving wife Nancy, he is survived by his two
children Hypatia Tarleton and husband Mark or Rosemont, MD and Richard
Mullen Jr. and wife Nevella of Lovettsville, VA; 4 grandchildren
Heather Osman & husband, Michael; Cecily Mullen, Morgan Mullen & Megan
Tarleton; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Osman & Preston Daniel
Kornblum. He was preceeded in death by his Grandson, Preston Tarleton
& 3 brothers Micheal E. Mullen, William A. Mullen and Robert J. Mullen.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100
North Maple Ave in Brunswick on Wednesday September 28 from 1 to 4 PM
and 6 to 9 PM. A mass of christian buriel will be held on Thursday
Sept 29 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 4231 Catholic
Church Rd., Petersville with Fr. Larry Gesy officiating. Buriel will
be held in Lovettsville Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Community Foundation of Frederick, Co., Preston Tarleton
Fund, 312 East Church St., Frederick, MD 21701.
