Richard McNally

Richard Marshall McNally, 92, of Sharpsburg, Maryland passed from this life on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Village at Robinwood in Hagerstown. He had been a resident of Maryland since 1952.

Born on March 26, 1924 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Major Charles and Anne McNally.

Richard graduated from Asbury College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and the University of Kentucky with a Master of Arts degree in 1951.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.  He was a P-51 fighter pilot with the 353rd and 339th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force in England.

He was a member of the "Caterpillar Club."

Richard was a former resident of Montgomery County, Maryland.  He worked as a Secondary Education Teacher and served nine years as a Secondary Education Administrator for nineteen years.

He was a member of the New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret F. (Todd) McNally, one daughter, Beth Anne McGinley and husband Howard of Hagerstown, one son, Richard Todd McNally and wife Robin of Atlanta, Georgia, one sister, Dorothea Hargreaves of Dedham, Massachusetts, and three grandchildren, Justin Richard McNally, and Scott Marshall McNally of Atlanta, Georgia, and Katelynn Frances Morgan McGinley of Baltimore, Maryland.

He pre-deceased by his brothers Charles R. and Robert M. McNally.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the New Street United Methodist Church, 202 West New Street, Shepherdstown, West Virginia 25443. There will be a visitation with family beginning at 10 am.
