Richard was the devoted husband of Eudenia Hubbard Leslie for 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving family that includes their children: Richard Dean Leslie; Darren Wayne Leslie and wife Suzie; Paul Dion Leslie and Jenifer Leslie; Charles Douglas Leslie and wife Chastity; and Marjorie Dianne (Leslie) Palmer and husband Larry. He was a proud grandfather to Richard Denon Leslie, Dustin Wayne Leslie, Dallas Paul Leslie, Dakota Mae Palmer, Alexzandra Dyan (Palmer) Cockerham and husband Christopher, Dalyn Scott Palmer, Madelyn Nicole Leslie, Riley Danielle Palmer, Brady Cole Leslie, Hayden Tyler Leslie, Kyle Douglas Leslie, and Caleb James Leslie. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Richard Dylan Leslie, Jackson Scott Cockerham, Avery Dyan Cockerham, Jane Rose Leslie, and Logan Clyde Cockerham. Richard is also survived by his siblings Marjorie Diane (Leslie) Offutt, Barry Lee Leslie, and Charlene (Leslie) Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Bell Thomas-Leslie-Howell and Richard Campbell Leslie.
A veteran of the United States Army, Richard served honorably as a military police officer. In 1965, he founded ARL Sign Company in Rockville, Maryland, where he provided sign and truck lettering services to local businesses for over five decades. After retiring from ARL Sign Company, he continued to contribute to his community through roles at DRA Services and Chick-fil-A.
Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures-walking with his dog Star, reading his Bible, and listening to music.
A celebration of Richard’s life will begin with receiving of friends from 10-11 AM on December 31, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Brookeville, Maryland where the service will begin at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow immediately at the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward in the church fellowship hall for refreshments and remembrance.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
