Mr. Richard S. "Rick" Lancaster, 67, of Ijamsville, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 following a two month battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Patti, and their children.
Born March 4, 1948 in Brunswick, he was the grandson of the late Dena V. Lancaster, the son of the late Gladys L. Darr and step-son to the late John W. Darr.
Rick received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Masters of Business Administration from Loyola College in Baltimore. He spent his entire professional career in the telecommunications industry, retiring from Verizon as a Manager of Network Planning. Most recently he worked alongside his son, Ryan, as a realtor with Long and Foster in Frederick.
Rick had a passion for community service and volunteerism. He was a Past President of the New Market Lions Club and an active member of Monocacy Valley Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. He enjoyed golf, dancing, genealogical research and was an avid Orioles fan.
Most importantly, Rick loved spending time with his family, especially doting on his two young granddaughters. He was never too busy to be with his children.
His family would like to thank the staff at Frederick Memorial Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital for the loving and dedicated care given to him during his illness.
Surviving are his wife Patti; his daughter, Stacie Ratliff and husband, Jason, of Clarksburg; his son, Ryan Lancaster of Frederick; two granddaughters, Caroline Ratliff and Catherine Ratliff; two brothers, Steve Darr and wife, Vicki, of Frederick and Robin Darr of Brunswick; one sister, Virginia Frye and husband, Allen, of Knoxville; three sister-in-laws and their husbands, Sam and Joyce Brown of Burkittsville, Jeannie and Tommy Cooper of Rosemont, and Wayne and Mary Arnold of New Oxford, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 26 from the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Park Heights Cemetery in Brunswick.
