Richard "Bing" Keeney, Sr. passed peacefully from this world into eternal rest on July 2, 2015 at his home.
Bing was born to the late Truman A. Keeney and Anna M. Keeney on August 27, 1937 in Woodsboro, Maryland. He was the loving husband of M. Dolores Keeney who predeceased him in June, 2009, and the devoted father of sons Richard and wife Theresa, T. Randall and wife Leslee, Jake and Tammy, and Rafe and wife Laura. Grandchildren include Josh & Angie, Ali & Patrick, Hayley & James, Jaeger, Morgan & Lauren, Zachary & Elizabeth, and step grandchildren Lacee & Nicholas, Kelsey & Shane, and Seth. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Rylee. He is also survived by great grandchildren Ryker & Emberleigh, and step great grandchildren Bryson & Logan.
Bing was the dear devoted brother of Constance LaBrush and husband, Clyde, Diana Keeney, brother-in-law of Linda Swan and husband Joe, Thomas Harding and wife Pat, Carl Clingan, Sis Harding, and "Uncle Bing" to many nieces and nephews.
Although family was his greatest love, he was very involved in sports and the community as a member of the Rotary Club, the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, and a participant in the Frederick Cotillion each year. As head coach of the Frederick Falcons for many years, he achieved membership in the Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. He was also honored as a member of the Alvin G. Quinn Sports Hall of Fame, coached in the Mt. Valley Athletic Association (MVAA), and was instrumental in getting the first football team established at Middletown High School.
Outside of sports, Bing was a Lay Eucharistic Minister for the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland and worked for 30+ years as the Frederick County Resident Engineer for the State Highway Administration. He was also president of Northcraft Signs.
Family members will be available to greet family and friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick, Maryland on Opossumtown, Pike from 2 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick, Md. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery immediately following the ceremony.
