Richard Grosbier

Richard Roland Grosbier, age 72, died unexpectedly at his home, on Friday, May 12, 2017.

At the time of his death he was recovering from neck fusion surgery. He is survived by his sister, Lynda and his niece Michelle of Dumfries, VA. Surviving also is his wife, Carol, to whom he was married for 38 years, and Carol's family including her two sisters, a brother, their spouses, Carol's mother, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Carol's extended family.

Dick grew up in Montgomery County, MD, living in Silver Spring, Rockville and Damascus. He was a graduate of the class of 1963 from Damascus High School. After high school he joined the Air Force, from 1965-1967 serving as an Aircraft Electronics Navigational Equipment repairman. This training enabled him to begin Ihis life's work in the electronics field, first with Heathkit Electronics in Rockville, and later with Industrial Photo of Silver Spring.

Dick enjoyed many varied activities. He met Carol at a sports car club, and they participated in many car rallies. He was very interested in computers, especially the Apple brand and was a member of the Frederick Apple Core. He was vice-president of the International Benchrest Shooters Assoc. and enjoyed benchrest target shooting at many rifle ranges up and down the east coast. He was also very involved in model railroading having built a large layout in his home and a Garden railroad at the Frederick County Society of Model Railroads in Frederick.

Dick loved to travel and with his wife made several coast-to-coast trips across the US, visiting almost all the lower 48 states, and a trip to Hawaii. Many of the trips out west included train rides, especially the Durango and Silverton, and Cumbres and Toltec. When it was cold in February he liked to take a Caribbean cruise, and had been to the Eastern, Western, and Southern Caribbean several times. Especially memorable was a cruise through the Panama Canal, a trans-Atlantic cruise and a Greek islands cruise. He also made several trips to England and Scotland. He was a great photographer and was always ready to show you his pictures of fabulous scenery and places he had visited.

Dick enjoyed helping out someone in need. Problems with a computer--call Dick. Plumbing--call Dick. Electrical--call Dick. He was a man with a big heart. He will be missed by many people.

A Memorial Service will be held on 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Linganore United Methodist Church, 8921 Clemsonville Rd., Unionville/Union Bridge, MD. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
