Richard L. "Dick" Greenawalt, age 85, of Middletown MD, passed away at home under the care of Frederick Health Hospice on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Dick was born in Latrobe, PA on July 8, 1938 to the late Robert and Martha (Stouffer) Greenawalt. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 62 years, Faye R. Greenawalt.
He is survived by daughters, Teresa L. Rhodes, Tanya R. Miller (John Wells), and Robin M. Neary (John Neary); and granddaughters, Kristin Smith (Matt Smith) and Lauren Neary. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Connie L. Kinna and Billie Sullivan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Greenawalt and Kenneth Greenawalt.
Dick attended schools in the Laughlintown, PA and Ligonier, PA areas. Dick was a U.S. Marine veteran and worked at NIH in Bethesda, MD and Leidos at Ft. Detrick before retiring. He was a 50 plus year member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, where he helped with the monthly senior lunches and apple butter making. He was also a member of the Jefferson Ruritan for over 40 years, assisting with banquets, soup/sub sales and the yearly Ruritan Carnival. Dick also bowled in numerous duckpin leagues for over 60 years with friends, Wayne and Margaret Brandenburg.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue in Brunswick.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown with Rev. Diane Day officiating followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church in Middletown.
Pallbearers will be John Wells, John Neary, Michael Kinna, Matthew Smith, Jim Morgan, and Dixie Eichelberger.
