Richard Thomas Francella, 76, of Frederick, formerly of Silver Spring, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, of lung cancer. Born on November 11, 1946, he was the son of Richard T. Francella, Sr. and Patricia Sullivan Francella.
He graduated from Wheaton High School and went to work at Federal Lithograph Company in Washington, D.C. where he served as a journeyman pressman and a bindery operator. Richard was an amateur meteorologist, astronomer, accordionist, artist, and a popular local DJ.
He enjoyed travelling, collecting antiques and rare vinyl LP's. He loved every animal under the sun.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Folliard Sullivan, his paternal grandparents, Gaetano and Mary DeMarco Francella and infant nephew Christian Thomas Walters.
He leaves behind two sisters, Rosemary Ann Sheridan (William) and Patricia Jean Nethery (the late George T. Nethery) a brother, Stephen Francis Francella (Shelley), as well as special friends. He also leaves behind nephew Colin Nethery and nieces Ann Marie Nethery Poole (Mike) and Caitlin Nethery Anselmo (Zack) and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Final interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frederick Health Hospice, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
