Mr. Richard Lloyd "Dick" Dietrick, Sr., 90, of Rockville, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at Holy Cross Hospital. He was the loving husband of Garnetta Josephine Dietrick for 67 years.
Born November 15, 1924 in New York, New York, he was the only child born to the late Arthur Lloyd and Nancy Ebert Dietrick.
He was a veteran of WWII and flew over 30 bombing missions, including D-Day, as a tail gunner with the 8th Air Force He loved his war buddies and kept in touch with them over the years. He was the last surviving member of his bomb group. Upon his return from his military service, he was owner/operator of a millinery, which later became a wedding supply store.
Dick was a lifetime member of Manor Country Club in Rockville. Additionally, he was an avid Washington Redskins fan and had been a ticket holder for over 60 years. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing and breeding German Shepherd pups. Most of all he enjoyed spending his days at home with his wife, Garnetta, and German Shepherd, Bullet.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard Dietrick, Jr. and wife, Pamela, of Middletown; three grandchildren, Lauren Dietrick and husband, Lonnie Bane, of Adamstown; Mallory Dietrick and husband, Curtis Bredice, of Middletown; and Michael Dietrick and girlfriend, Lauren Carroll; four great-grandsons, Karl Kaiser, Ryan Embrey, and Charles and Aidan Dietrick.
He was predeceased by his uncles, Jerney and Harry Ebert, and Ross Dietrick; and an aunt, Mabel Dietrick.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Lloyd Fuss.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
