Richard Boyd

Richard Scott “Rich” Boyd, 49, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on February 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of 13 years to Heather (Fine) Boyd.

Born on April 21, 1968, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Carl Leslie and Virginia Laura (Clark) Boyd. Rich was a graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland. Known as the “Lock Dude”, Rich owned and operated R.J. Lock and Security in Frederick, Maryland. He enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors and being a host to his friends and family, often grilling outside. He enjoyed music and was a self-taught guitar player. Rich’s pride and joy was his family. He loved baseball and fulfilled his desire to be a coach for his son and other boys in the community. Spending time with his brothers and sisters and their families brought him much joy.  He was a family man that knew how to savor each day with his warm-hearted, funny personality and more friends than he could count. He had an immense love and respect for our country, sitting and watching our American flag wave in the back yard. Rich requested that he spend his final days at home with family, looking out at his beautiful yard, and watching his flag which always gave him peace.

In addition to his wife Heather, he is survived by his two sons, Shepard age 11 and Levi age 7; his siblings, Linda Quinn and husband Jim, Steven Boyd and wife Kathy and Karen Stegman and husband Ron. Rich is also survived by his father-in-law, Donald Fine and wife Ruby; mother-in-law, Judy and husband William “Pete” Allen; sisters-in-law, Dawn Ann Bambrick and husband Tim, and Kim Basso and husband Kevin; brothers-in-law, Matthew Fine and wife Helen, and Scott Wiles and wife Tracy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-2pm on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702. A celebration of his life’s journey will be held at 2 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to better Shepard and Levi’s future. 529 Plans for their college education have been opened, checks may be payable to either Shepard Quinn Boyd or Levi Carson Boyd and mailed to 4803 Deer Lake Drive W 3rd floor, Jacksonville, FL 32246.

The family asks those attending to wear purple in support of battle with pancreatic cancer or to wear their Cloverhill baseball uniforms to the memorial service.
