Rev. Carroll Lee "Pop" Boyer, 83, Pastor, Gardener, Carpenter, of Boonsboro, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Washington County Hospital.
Born September 5, 1924 on the family farm, Carroll Boyer Road, Jefferson, Md., he was the son of the late Carroll Eugene and Beulah Pearl Ahalt Boyer.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during W.W.II and the Pacific Theater.
He was a 1942 graduate of Middletown High School. He was a graduate of Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1953.
Pastor Boyer served in many capacities during his ministerial career including: Visitation Pastor in Charge, Petersville Luther Chapel, Visitation Pastor, St. Peters Beard Lutheran Church, Leitersburg, Md., Visitation Pastor, Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Md., Interim Pastor, St. John's Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church both in Hagerstown, Pastor, St. Peter's Lutheran Church/Beaver Creek Parish, Mission Pastor, Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, Md. from 1954 to 1981, Assistant Pastor, St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Hanover, Pa. and he was currently a 55 year member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Delaware - Maryland Synod.
He was a member of the AMVETS Post 10 in Hagerstown, Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, the United States Navy Auxiliary Fleet Tug Association, the Civil War Preservation Trust and the American Red Cross Blood Donor 10+ Gallons.
Pastor Boyer is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marie K. Boyer; son, Michael E. Boyer and wife, Donna, of Williamsport, Md.; daughters, L. Kristen Kennedy and husband, David, and Chief Petty Officer Marcia S. Boyer, USN, Ret. all of Frederick, Md. and Melissa A. Nearchos and husband, Gregory, of Hagerstown; step son, Michael B. Eyler and wife, Peggy, of Falling Waters, W.Va.: sisters, S. Sue Wilkening of Timonium, Md. and Audrey Ann Boyer of Middletown; grandchildren, Justin Boyer of Rockville, Md., Heather Boyer of Cockeysville, Md., Daniel Kennedy of Frederick, Zachary Gleim of Newark, Delaware; step granddaughter, Caitlin S. Eyler and step grandson, Jack Bowen.
He was preceded in death by brother, Meredith Eugene and wife, Marion Coblentz, Boyer; sister, Fonda Mae Boyer and husband, Richard, Randall; brother-in-law, Harold Wilkening; and step son, Matthew E. Eyler.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Main Street, Middletown, Md. with Revs. Kathryn Vitalis Hoffman and Roy M. Oswald officiating. Burial will be in the Middletown Lutheran Cemetery.
