Mr. Rembert F. Jones, Jr., 74, of Middletown, MD, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 29, 2009, surrounded by his family. Rem had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of melanoma.

Born May 12, 1935, in Washington, DC, to the late Rembert F. Jones, Sr. and Dorothy G. Jones, Rem grew up in Silver Hill, MD and later became a longtime resident of Derwood, MD. In 1999, Rem and his wife Diane settled in Middletown, MD.

Rem graduated from the University of Maryland in 1958 with a degree in science. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1964 and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Catholic University in 1973. Rem worked for the DC Highway Department from 1958 to 1964 where he designed and built bridges. In 1964 until his retirement in 1994, Rem worked in research at the Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center.

For 46 years, Rem was the devoted husband of his wife Diane, who passed away in 2006. He was the loving father of Kathleen and son-in-law Bill Lambros of Walkersville, MD, Suzanne Klinejohn-Jones of Sabillasville and the adoring Deeda of Carlee and Kendall Lambros of Walkersville He is also survived by sister Linda Jones of Silver Hill, MD and numerous extended family members located throughout the country.

Rem also leaves behind his beloved canine companions Lucy, Nicky, and Holly.

Rem was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church and the congregation became like family after he lost his wife. He could often be heard saying how much he loved his church.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 3, 2009 at Middletown United Methodist Church, 7108 Fern Circle, Middletown, MD, 21769. Internment will be held at a later date.
